A very disappointing experience. We booked an SUV in November 2018, then the night before we left NZ to travel to Samoa (June 2019), AVIS Samoa phoned us to say that they could not honour our booking and would be passing us on to a local operator. On arrival at Faleolo International Airport, a representative from another local company met us. There were no credit card facilities (fortunately we had enough cash on hand), given no pre-contract inspection of the vehicle, no copies of the contract given to us, despite a request from us, and a very sub-standard, small, 4-seater vehicle.for 4 adults and 4 suitcases! On returning the vehicle, there was no-one at the airport to receive the vehicle, so an airport employee chased around on our behalf and contacted the company. What a nightmare.and all because AVIS Samoa didn't provide us with the vehicle we had booked. I contacted the AVIS Customer Service Centre (which is in the USA, by the way!) and after a very long and protracted set of flowery emails, they apologised and accepted that the Samoa office was in breach of AVIS policy. Who knows if this was ever followed up! Needless to say, AVIS is off our agenda for any international car hire, anywhere. Air New Zealand, who promote AVIS, need to take heed also!

DO NOT USE AVIS SAMOA!

we received the van late.it turned up with 2 semi flat tyres.the inside was so dirty, full of cockroaches and ants.and the tyres were bald, in fact one of the tyres had wires coming out the side.when we drive it the steering wheel shock intensely when braking.the van was so unsafe and should not have been on the road.we did not feel safe transporting our kids in it.we use the vehicle for 2 days, then one morning we came out to the van with a flat tyre.there was no jack and the spare tyre was like a tractor tyre.no way to change the tyre.we requested a replacement, which was delivered later that afternoon.so we were without a car all that day and we had to hire another one in replacement.avis has been incredibly hard to deal with, I have repeatedly called and emailed them.they have charged us for 4 days hire even though we only had the car 3 days.at one stage there was also 3 charges against my credit card, however no one seems to know what that charge was for and it has now been removed.
Very disappointing, as I thought AVIS was a trusted brand.

DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

I would strongly suggest avoiding this rental company at all costs.
They accused me of scratching one of their cars and then took $2500 NZD out of my bank account without permission or even telling me they were doing it. This amount was on top of $500 bond they already had.

When we returned the car no one was even in the office and after waiting for an hour we had to go check in to our flight home.

This was well over a month ago and I am yet to hear anything back from them despite constantly emailing and calling to find out what is going on. They still have over $3000 NZD of my money and refuse to answer calls or emails.

Absolutely the worst customer experience I have ever encountered and the dishonesty they have shown is alarming. Don't deserve one star

Very dissapointing. We had a Toyota Yaris. It did not have a full tank of petrol but we had to return it with the same amount. The exterior of the car was ok, but the interior was grubby to say the least. It looked like someone had spilt a iced coffee or similar over the hand brake and the liquid had pooled in the hand brake cowling. We felt grubby inside the car. Poor vehicle and service.

Booked a 12 seater van. Bad condition. Floor of the van was all ripped up and dirty. The sliding door doesn’t stay shut. We reported it the next day and told them that the sliding door opens randomly while we’re driving around. They said we didn’t shut the door properly. Terrible condition. Would not recommend it.

Booked a rental for my mum to be picked up at 6: 00am when she arrived, there was no one there and she waited over an hour and still no service. Even gave them a call and no answer. There also other people waiting. Ridiculous

I am travelling in a group of 14 and booked a 15 seater van with them 6 months before travelling, only to get an email 2 DAYS before arriving that they no longer have the van I booked and they will provide 2 toyota yaris. How on earth do you fit 7 people in a Yaris? Communication has been extremely poor. I would not recommend booking with them if you want a stress free holiday! I would give them no stars if I could.

Also asked them months out to book the ferry for us as we were staying on Savai'i on the first night, only to discover, they had not managed this either and now the ferry is full! Have spent HOURS trying to undo their monumental mistakes. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!
