Mulifanua Wharf Ferry Terminal reviews
7Received the raw experience of Samoa here. Last place, before Savai'i. You feel the variety of different crowds, catching the ferry. It was nice to feel the experience in the flesh. Nothing like it!
Enjoyed both rides on the ferry.
We took our car. 1st ferry was a smooth ride from Apia to Savaii, but on the ferry back home, the boat was swaying a lot and was slower.
Just a little over an hour ride.
The ticket booth is on the left, and is unmarked but just follow everyone else. Helpful staff that speak fluent English. Plenty of places to buy snacks (sandwiches, crisps, coffee). I think the Lady Samoa would be better for a walk on tourist option than the other ship (which seems more for vehicles/goods). Ferry departed on time and took about 1 hour 20 all up. Loads of seats inside, or just sit wherever as locals do. 10Tala each way makes this about the best deal in all of Samoa. You get what you pay for so don't expect a/c or the TV working the entire distance. There are local buses that stink out the place with smoky diesel but just go with it.
Toilets are disgusting. Make sure you go before you arrive to the doc/ferry. Ferry toilets are no better either!
I recommend that you book your vehicle in advance at Samoa Shipping Corporation (SSC), an orange building next to Paddles Restaurant. It is $95 per vehicle including the driver (One way). Passenger can purchase their ferry tickets at the wharf $10Tala and children should be half price. There's VIP option available at $30tala per Adult (inclusive of refreshment & nonalcoholic beverage) plus private bathroom. AC area for all passengers is available on the first floor. There's bathrooms, TV, and canteen on board. If you prefer natural air, head up to the second floor.
If you're the type who gets sea sick. Best to take the early morning ferry that is either 6am or 8am from Mulifanua to Salelologa (Savaii). You'll have to be there 2hrs prior departure time. There are motion tablets that you can purchase from Niu Pharmacy.
Tip: when getting closer to the island the captain will make an announcement. That's the driver's cue to make his/her way to their vehicle. Otherwise you'll get stuff in the line of people waiting to disembark the ferry. But if you find yourself stuck at a line.just excuse yourself and let those in front of you that you are a driver. They'll understand and make way for you.
Fair price. Not to long of a wait. Sometimes gets overcrowded. Nice seating. Lovely views & breeze.
